                   Peggy Hartanto

Peggy Hartanto was born In Indonisa but was rasied in Surabaya. In 2006 she then moved to Australia to begin studying fashion. From then on she went to win many awards and become a big fashion desinger.

Having been worn by many celebrities as you will read, her brand has gotten more notice. Peggy using the illusion style that I personally love so much,  puts it in nice clean cuts and the clothing comes out as sophisticated and beautfiul.

With a new collection underway, come and read about this fabulous desinger.

What made you want to be a fashion designer? When I was a little girl, I was very picky about the materials that I would like to wear daily. I do not like laces, because it was making me uncomfortable. I took fashion design as my major during my university life because I simply want to make my own dresses. As a competitive person, during my university life, I joined several competitions in Australia; and that was the time I fell in love with fashion world. After winning an alumni prize of doing runway in Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in 2011, being a fashion designer was a natural choice after I went back home to Indonesia in 2012. It was a golden chance to debut my collection in Jakarta Fashion Week 2013.

What was it like moving from Surabaya to Australia in 2006? It was a hard time for me. I moved to Australia with limited English skill, and I remember crying almost everyday because I could not understand what the lecture said in the class. I was in low self esteem back then. My family was very supportive, especially my twin sister that moved to Australia together with me. Adapting to new environment was a huge challenge, but I think that was the time when I was trained to be tough, it shaped my personality.

Out of all the awards you won, which one means the most to you? The current Indonesian Harper’s BAZAAR Asia New Generation Fashion Award is the one that means the most to me. I was judged and mentored by notable peoples in Indonesian fashion industry, and I met several talented fashion designers from Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore. It opened a new view for me towards Asia fashion world.

What is your favorite thing about designing clothes? Designing clothes is making imaginations real.

How would you describe your sense of style? Daring in its simplicity; PEGGY HARTANTO pieces are bold statement in minimalist style presentation.

Which celebrities have wore your clothing? Indonesian Celebrities such as Andien Aisyah, Bunga Citra Lestari, Agnes Monica. Hollywood aCelebrities, such as Giuliana Rancic, Bella Thorne, Aly and AJ Michalka from Violet78, Judith Hill from X-Factor USA, Portia Doubleday, Allison Holker from SYTYCD, Lucy Hale, Janel Parrish, Dania Ramirez of Heroes, Jessica Lowndes, Claudia Lee, Odette Annable, Marie Avgeropoulos, Jillian Muray, Kathleen Robertson, Sadie Calvano, and Hunger Games’ costume designer Trish Summerville.

Which is your favorite collection? UNSEEN is my favorite collection so far.

What do you get inspired by? I get my inspiration mostly from unusual things; for example, the latest collection is Albino inspired.

When is your next collection and whats the inspiration behind this one? The next collection will be a local collaboration between PEGGY HARTANTO and a retail store in Indonesia, which will be launched in early April 2014. Stay tuned in our social media for this!
