On Marriage: “I mean, I really do understand the importance and what that ceremony represents to so many people, but it’s just such a personal thing. Let’s put it this way: I never had the dream of the white dress. And watching other people getting married? I think it’s beautiful for them, but to be quite honest, usually I’m sitting there just devastated.” It’s supposed to be this night of celebrating love, and all you see is a couple separated all night making sure everybody else is OK. It just looks like a lot of work. And as you get older, you start sifting through the stuff that really matters.”

On Dating Sean Penn: “Look, we’re dating, and I don’t think we were trying to hide anything. We were photographed; the relationship was kind of written about. I recently did a daylong press junket, which I hadn’t done in forever, and it’s a harsh reminder that whatever people try to hide a press junket behind, it’s really a roundabout way of getting at as much private shit as they can. It was all about what I like to eat and avoiding questions about Sean or my son.”

On her son: "He likes big boys. He’s super independent. His awareness just blows my mind. He picks up on things really quickly. Shy at first, and then you can’t stop him. But it’s the shyness that I love because it’s kind of a pensive quality—he susses out the situation, and then he’ll step in and join the group.”

On giving away clothing: “I have a philosophy. I give a couple of pieces away for everyone one that I get. I live in New York City and I have a small closet, and it’s also a good way to keep the flow, so my closet is constantly being turned over… It’s much more appealing to me to feel good in something than to wear a piece just because it’s considered cool.”

On motherhood: “Motherhood is the best. It’s rewarding to see a little being develop and grow into an individual. Flynn makes me laugh so much. We have the same sense of humor, which no one else understands. I’ll look at something and laugh, and then he’ll laugh, and it’s so contagious.”

On womanhood: “I grew into my femininity over the last 10 years. I’m influenced by my grandmother. She’s always chic. Even if she’s just at home and cooking in the kitchen, she looks effortlessly put together.”

On how her engagement to Johnny Depp hasn’t impacted her career: “I haven’t noticed any change in my career. And, for better or worse, I’ve always had a love life that seemed particularly salacious to some people. Before, it was also seen as unconventional.”

On when her friends meet her love interests: “Whenever my old friends meet someone I’m involved with romantically, they immediately warn them: ‘She may look refined, but when she’s angry, she can go trailer park really fast.''

On riding horses: “When I’m in L.A., I come ride here five times week. No matter how crazy things get, [my horse trainer father] will immediately get me back to normal.”
